FLATFOOT ADD Programme – Advanced Dance Development - offers advanced technique and performance dance skills to especially identified talented young KZN-based dancers (16yrs and up) who have come through our FLATFOOT township-based dance education and development programmes.
This programme aims specifically to support job skills training and aims to ready young dancers for a performance career in dance. The programme began in 2013, where we selected 15 youth (primarily from KwaMashu, Newlands East and Umlazi) - some of whom have been dancing with FLATFOOT’s programmes for twelve years - whose transport is funded to attend intensive Saturday morning technique classes and workshops over the course of the year.
The 15 youth selected are (and have been) excelling in their dance training and this ADD FLATFOOT programme is offering them a more guided career pathing as dancers. They work toward 3 public performances every year to showcase their growing talent.
We see these young dancers as the next generations of FLATFOOT company dancers as we commit ourselves to both job creation in the dance/arts sector, and also to growth and development in the arts in KZN and South Africa.
This work is supported by project funding from the National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC)
